Eglantine and Lichii polish the Switch 2 Ocarina of Time on PC, with 60 fps still unconfirmed

In two days both emulators fixed flashes and black screens, and Lichii added a dynamic FPS patch. The 60 fps figures come mostly from press and social media, and the developers themselves warn that smoothness isn't guaranteed.

What changed in Eglantine

Eglantine is an open source Switch 2 emulator under GPL-3.0, derived from Eden, Yuzu and Sudachi and started by Camille LaVey. Its README calls it very experimental and doesn't list Ocarina of Time among the games it runs.

The commit log says otherwise. A test build from November 6 fixes white flashes, a black scene on AMD cards and the vegetation. The November 7 daily build adds recommended settings for the game, changes how its movies are processed and works around a bug on doors. These branches are published with a label saying they aren't a final release.

Lichii and dynamic FPS

Lichii is a fork of Eglantine. We couldn't find an official repository for it, so what follows comes from press quoting its creators. GamerGPU reports that build 88, from November 7, turns on the Dark Dynamic FPS modification by default, separating game logic from the frame rate. It also reworks the Vulkan shader cache so shaders are prepared in the background. FSR3 frame generation stays off by default.

The developers admit dynamic frame rates don't guarantee a smooth picture and that they're still verifying gameplay timings.

About those 60 fps

Wccftech, citing DSOGaming, mentions 60 fps in the starting area and the Great Deku Tree, up from 20 to 30 on launch day. GamerGPU tested on a Ryzen 7 9800X3D with an RTX 4080 and describes Hyrule Field as very stable, with dips caused by shader compilation. Another user on a 5700X and RTX 5070 still saw flickering vegetation, a lighting fault at the Great Deku Tree and desynced audio in the first cutscene.

GamerGPU also says the bloom needs more work.

Either way you need keys, firmware and the game dumped from your own Switch 2. According to the same source, Lichii ships none of those files.
