PS4 browser jailbreak reaches 14.00 with GoldHEN 2.4b18.13, and Sony answers with 14.02
The WebKit chain that covered 13.02 to 13.52 now reaches 14.00 through a GoldHEN beta released on November 3. Sony shipped 14.02 a day later with security fixes and no public method exists for it, so stay on 14.00 or lower.
GoldHEN gets to 14.00
Since September an exploit chain through the PS4 browser had covered firmwares 13.02, 13.04, 13.50 and 13.52, first with an open source HEN and later with GoldHEN, the homebrew enabler nearly everyone uses on this console. In early November that chain reached 14.00.
Community guides say SiSTRo, GoldHEN's author, released version 2.4b18.13 on November 3, still in beta, with 14.00 support. It's distributed through a Ko-fi page, since the project's GitHub still lists older versions. SiSTRo asks people to stick to the official builds and avoid modified ones promising extra compatibility.
You'll run it at every boot
The entry point is the browser, with a WebKit exploit chained to a kernel bug. GoldHEN unloads when the console shuts down or restarts, so the process has to be repeated. BD-JB discs still work up to 13.00 but not on 14.00. Early users describe runs on 14.00 as hit and miss, which is a good reason to go slowly while it's in beta.
Sony's reply: 14.02
Firmware 14.02 arrived on November 4. PlayStation's official page lists it as the current version with a single note about security fixes. Sony doesn't say what it closed, though the timing lines up with the jailbreak's release.
There is no public method for 14.02. A video claiming to show HEN loading on it has circulated, but nobody has confirmed it and no code has been published.
A PS4 can't be downgraded. If you're on 14.00 or lower and want homebrew, turn off automatic updates and don't install 14.02.
